The Center of History and Cultural Anthropology in cooperation with the Center for Civilizational and Regional Studiesh (both under the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences), and School of History, Political Science and Law of the Russian State University for the Humanities held in Moscow on June 23–26, 2009 the Fifth International Conference ‘Hierarchy and Power in the History of Civilizations’.
243 scholars from 35 foreign countries and 23 cities of Russia participated in the event. The Center’s researchers organized such panels as “The Newcomers and Old-Timers: Intercultural Communication, Social Transitions and Migration Policy” (Dmitri M. Bondarenko, Veronica V. Usacheva), “Hierarchy and Power in the Sphere of Cyberspace” (Oleg I. Kavykin), and “The Image of Power, State and Leaders” (Tatiana V. Evgenyeva).
