From February 16 till March 10 Oxana V. Ivanchenko was carrying out a research on national identity among urban citizens and it’s formation in Tanzania (in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Zanzibar city).
Vladimir G. Shubin presented the paper on “Ogaden War: a View from Moscow” at the international conference “Sub-Saharan Africa in the 1970s: Crisis, Conflicts and Transformations”.
Ekaterina Demintseva presented a paper at the international colloquium «Religion and Migration» held at the Institute for African Studies, Rabat, Mоrocco on November 25-27, 2010.
On November 27, 2010 the Center researchers Anastasia A. Banschikova and Alexander V. Pakin took part in the 6th International "Knorozov Readings" held at the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow.
Dmitri M. Bondarenko took part in the African Studies Association 53rd Annual Meeting held in San Francisco, USA on November 18 - 21, 2010. The paper titled "Non-African Minorities and Nation-Building in Tanzania: Inclusion or Exclusion?" was presented by him in the "Asian Communities in Africa" panel.
On August 24-27, 2010 Dmitri M. Bondarenko took part in the 11th Biennial Conference of the European Association of Social Anthropologists in Maynooth (Ireland). Dmitri gave a paper and chaired (with Petr Skalnik) the Africanist Network's workshop.
On May 13 – 30, 2010 a team of Russian Cultural Anthropologists from the Institute for African Studies conducted fieldwork in the Republic of Zambia (in the cities of Lusaka and Livingstone).
The Center of History and Cultural Anthropology (under the Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences) will hold in Moscow on May 27–28, 2010 the International Seminar ‘Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination. As We Have Seen These… ’.
