Senior Researcher of the Center for History and Cultural Anthropology Evgenii Morozov spoke at the XXI International Congress "Blishchenko Readings": "International Law - a Means of Ensuring Peace and Trust at the Peoples" in the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The event was attended by about 400 specialists in the field of international law from Russia and 30 foreign countries.
Evgenii Morozov analyzed the evolution of the political status of the international zone of Tangier (1912-1956), in which the equality of several European powers and the United States was guaranteed and ensured by law. The inability to agree on the state affiliation of this territory led to the creation of a unique precedent in the field of international law. The city of Tangier at the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar and the adjacent territory received "international status". The international zone of Tangier existed for 44 years, becoming a long-lasting territorial and legal entity. In 1956, it was liquidated. Evgenii Morozov noted that the unique experience of the Tangier zone as a way of resolving international territorial and legal disputes, which proved its effectiveness during the two world wars, seems relevant in our time.
